The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry is committed to realizing His Excellency, the President’s vision for a middle-income Zimbabwe by 2030. Our sector is poised to contribute significantly to this vision, with a clear target of reaching a $5 billion tourism economy by 2025. This ambitious goal requires strategic planning, innovation, and collective action from all industry players. As we work towards this target, our focus is not just on expanding tourism numbers but on ensuring that this growth is sustainable, inclusive, and beneficial to local communities. We are investing in key areas such as infrastructure development, skills training, and digital transformation, all of which are pivotal in enhancing Zimbabwe’s tourism offering. Through this website, we offer a gateway to the vast potential of our sector and invite all stakeholders to join hands with us in shaping the future of Zimbabwean tourism. This reflects the officials’ commitment to achieving the $5 billion target and aligns with the President’s broader economic goals for Zimbabwe.

Tourism Infrastructure and Coordination

The mandate of this department is to: Oversee the planning and development of essential tourism-related infrastructure in liaison with stakeholders ie Local Authorities and Communities Facilitate identification, development and refurbishment of tourism infrastructure development projects Develop tourism products and projects in provinces including Community Based Tourism Project CBTs projects; Advocate for investments in infrastructure that facilitate tourism growth. Coordinate with other governmental departments to ensure infrastructure aligns with tourism needs. Monitor and assess the existing infrastructure to identify areas for enhancement, including universal access. Ensure development and implementation of Tourism Master Plans.

Tourism Development and Facilitation

The mandate of this department is to: Facilitate tourism development (Transport, Immigration, Utilities, private sector and financing) Oversee the development , implementation and review of revenue collection systems; (Zimbabwe Tourism Fund) Oversee the identification and innovation of new tourism products and activities within the guidelines of tourism development plans Develop quality assurance standards in line with international best practices Monitor standards of tourism facilities and product offered Facilitate implementation of tourism policies by Parastatals (ZTA, MOSI) Facilitate and promote Tourism Investments in Zimbabwe

Domestic Promotion and Hospitality

The mandate of this department is to: Develop and implement policies and programmes to facilitate growth of domestic tourism Spearhead Domestic Tourism awareness and advocacy programmes Develop and implement marketing strategies targeted at domestic tourists. Promote local attractions, events, and hospitality services to encourage local travel. Collaborate with local businesses to enhance the quality of hospitality services. Conduct campaigns to raise awareness of domestic tourism opportunities. Monitor and supervise operations of Tourism Offices in provinces. Organize and facilitate education and training programmes for the tourism industry Facilitate implementation of tourism policies by Parastatals

International and Regional Tourism Promotion

The mandate of this department: Manage the development and implementation of policies and programmes to facilitate growth of regional and international tourism Lead the development and implementation of strategies to promote tourism to international and regional markets. Facilitate the negotiation, formulation and review the implementation of bilateral, regional, and multilateral agreements. Facilitate International Tourism awareness and advocacy programmes through attending international tourism fairs and conferences to promote the destination abroad. Facilitate the building of partnerships with international tourism organizations, agencies, and stakeholders. Oversee the tailor marketing of campaigns to attract specific international tourists and regional visitors. Facilitate, coordinate and liaise with Foreign Tourism Offices (FTOs) and Embassies with regard to tourism development issues.
